Katherine Christine Adams, 57 of Thomaston, died in her home, Saturday, April 25, 2020. Katherine was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Duarte, CA. She graduated from California State University and received master’s degrees from Cal State and UCLA. She worked as a librarian at rare book and university libraries in Los Angeles, Pasadena, and San Diego in California, at Bowdoin College in Maine, and at Yale University in Connecticut.
She is survived by her mother and stepfather of Apple Valley, California and her ex-spouse, the Rev. Lael Sorensen, rector of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Rockland, Maine.
I was Kathy’s supervisor at Bowdoin, and on the search committee that helped recruit her. I recall vividly meeting Kathy in person, at the interview on campus -sensing in her an enthusiasm, a very specific wit, a warmth and brightness in her affect, and also a real passion for making a difference in the world writ large – librarianship, academia, truth. Lofty much? Oh yes, but real, very real. Kathy contributed much fine, and refined work to Bowdoin’s library catalog indeed, and we can and should honor her creative and curiosity – but it is for her unprocessed humanity, her ore of compassion and charity that I hold Kathy in my heart.
