Dr. Marguerite J. McNeely ’81 died of brain cancer on July 2, 2014, in Seattle, Washington.
She was born on November 21, 1959, in Mineola, N.Y., and graduated from Bellevue (Wash.) Senior High School. She was a dean’s list student at Bowdoin, and went on to earn a master’s degree in biologic science at the University of Texas in Houston, then graduate with high honors from the University of Washington Medical School. She completed her residency in internal medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, then returned to Seattle to complete a research fellowship in general medicine with the Veteran’s Administration. She subsequently earned a master’s degree in public health. She was appointed to the faculty of the UW medical school and rose to the rank of associate professor, receiving an award for excellence in teaching. She worked at the Hall Health Center on campus, and then for many years in the UW General Internal Medicine clinic. In addition to her clinical work, she was also involved in epidemiologic research related to diabetes, and published more than 50 scientific articles. She is survived by her husband, Dominic Reilly; sisters Nancy, Ann Marie and Elizabeth, and brothers Richard and Thomas.
