Michael M. Mahar ’95

Michael M. Mahar ’95 died on December 25, 2016, in Kennebunk, Maine.

Michael Martin Mahar, 43, a resident of Kennebunk, and formerly of Lubec, ME, died Sunday, December 25, 2016, at his home after a long illness.

Michael was born in Ellsworth, ME, on October 10, 1973, the son of Martin and Kathryn (Ashmore) Mahar. He graduated from Lubec High School, received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Bowdoin College, and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Boston College. He was employed by Casey Family Service of Portland, as well as several other social service agencies during his career, as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

Michael was an avid reader of multiple genres, consummate artist, enjoyed roller blading, and listening to music. He enjoyed the study of ancient Egyptian arts and culture, as well as the iconology of its Gods and Goddesses. Additionally, he was a dedicated caregiver of cats, having adopted several rescued Siamese and Cornish Rex cats.

Michael is survived by his daughter Violet Mahar-Littell, step daughter Chloe Littell, his ex-wife and close friend Amy Littell all of Lyman, ME, his parents of East Machias, ME, his brothers Matthew Mahar of Catonsville, MD, and Mitchell Mahar of East Machias, ME; sister-in-law Amy (Mather) Mahar; three nieces (Esther, Ruth and Leah Mahar) and two nephews (Jayden and Philip Mahar). He is also survived by several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

He and Violet were lovingly received into, and supported by, the church family at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church of Kennebunk.
