Peter M. Day ’63 died on October 22, 2024, in Land O’Lakes, Florida.

Peter M. Day ’63
LAND O’LAKES, Fla. – Peter Michael “Mike” Day, who was born and raised in Rumford, and who most recently resided in Land O’Lakes, Florida, passed away on October 22, 2024, at the age of 83.
Mike is survived by his wife of sixty years, Janet Doris (Deniger) Day; his second daughter, Meara Day (Michael Williams); and his grandson, Owen Williams. His first daughter, Morgan Catherine Day, preceded Mike in death in February of 2023. Mike is also survived by his three siblings, Richard “Dick” Day (late Lucy Day), Suzanne Barker (late Donald Barker) ,and Christine Hoyt (David Hoyt), all residents of Maine, and by numerous nieces and nephews and siblings-in-law.
Mike was born on January 25, 1941, in Rumford, to (late) Edward Day and (late) Suzanne (Louvat) Day. Mike attended Stephens High School, earning five varsity letters across football and basketball. He served as student council president for two years and received an academic scholarship to Bowdoin College, graduating with a major in History.
Mike then attended Officer’s Candidate school for the U.S. Navy in Newport, Rhode Island. There, he met Janet Deniger, a nursing student from Taunton, Massachusetts; they married in 1964 and moved to Coronado, California, where Mike was stationed. They soon welcomed daughter Morgan. Mike served as a lieutenant in communications on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Oriskany during the Vietnam War. The young family then moved back east and Mike worked at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.. They welcomed their second child, Meara, and settled in Largo, Maryland.
Mike retired from the Navy and began a career in finance as a stockbroker and financial planner. He worked for decades for various firms in Washington, D.C. (e.g., Lehman Brothers, Shearson Lehman, Morgan Stanley). As they approached retirement, Mike and Janet moved from Maryland to Florida. They lived in Land O’Lakes, traveling and spending time with friends and family for nearly twenty years.
Mike Day was a loving husband and father, and a caring friend, known for his warmth, his quick wit, his loyalty, and above all, his kindness. He is deeply missed and loved.
