Philip S. Smith Jr. ’47 died on January 31, 2015, in Nevis, West Indies.

Philip S. Smith, Jr., 88, passed away on the island of Nevis, West Indies, on January 31, 2015. Philip was born in Worcester and lived in Leicester, Massachusetts much of his young life. He attended Northfield Mount Hermon School and graduated from Bowdoin College in 1949. After graduating from college, Philip was employed by the State Mutual Life Insurance Company in Worcester for several years until he moved to Washington, D.C. to work with the Highway Users Federation. Philip retired in 1980 to South Brooksville, Maine, where he was a member of the Bucks Harbor Yacht. He spent his winter months in the West Indies, on the Island of Nevis, which he considered his home away from home for the last 25 years of his life

He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy W. Smith, who died in 2014, and two brothers, Henry O. Smith and David Smith. He leaves behind three children: Barbara Macomber Smith Elliott of Richland, New York; James W. Smith of Burlington, Vermont; and Philip S. Smith, III, of Hilton Head, South Carolina; and four grandchildren.
