Ramonda M. Petrich

Virginia Beach, VA – Ramonda (Mona) Meta Petrich (neé Plath), 94, passed onto her Lord’s home on Saturday, February 15, 2025. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Capt. Horst Alfred (Al) Petrich (US Navy Retired); and leaves her cherished children Kurt Petrich (Cyndi), Erika Ricks (Otis), and Ramona Koonce (Stan); eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

She was a native of NYC where she was employed as a secretary by the Equitable Life Insurance Company for eight years.

In 1955 one man changed the direction of her heart and one action changed the course of his life when she met and married “Al” Petrich, a young Naval Ensign, at the Manhattan Church of Christ. Al and Mona were married for forty-nine years, with an adventurous life of travel and love of family. Ramonda devoted her life supporting her husband’s career – a Navy Aviator, Commanding Officer, Commandant, and many other Navy units for thirty years, until his retirement:

During their marriage, she was employed as a secretary of a finance company in Kansas; worked for the Dean of Admissions at Bowdin College in Brunswick, ME, and attended Monterey Peninsula College in Monterey, CA. She was a volunteer for Navy Relief in California, Rhode Island, and Norfolk, VA. She was also a volunteer at the Sentara Virginia Beach Emergency Center in 1974.

Al and Mona had a deep faith and were committed to their church wherever they lived. Al was an Elder in the church for ten years, and Mona was a Sunday School and World Bible School teacher for twenty-five years. She also took great joy and responsibility serving as a prayer warrior.

Among her special interests were playing piano, singing, reading, writing, and painting. Mona and Al’s parents were German immigrants. They traveled there often with family. Mona’s life goal was “My faith looks up to Thee.” Which served her and her family well.
