Rev. David B. Johnston ’45

Rev. David B. Johnston ’45 died March 17, 2013, in White River Junction, Vt. He was born on February 20, 1923, in Ashland, Mass., and prepared for college at Medford (Mass.) High School. He attended Bowdoin from 1941 to 1943 and from 1945 to 1946, was a member of Zeta Psi fraternity, and he enlisted in the Army during World War II and served to sergeant.He went on to graduate magna cum laude from Tufts University, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and then earned a Master of Divinity from Yale Divinity School in 1952. He began his work in the ministry at the Congregational Church in Bradford, Vt., and in 1956 accepted a call to serve the Brockton, Mass., First Congregational Church, then at the First Congregational Church of Woodstock, Vt. He is survived by his wife of more than sixty-two years, Doris Elizabeth Barclay Johnston; sons Thomas, Mark, Neil, Peter, and David; daughter Ruth Elizabeth; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister Ruth Barbara Perkins.
