Richard C. Lunt ’50 died on October 21, 2023, in Chelmsford, Massachusetts.

Richard C. Lunt ’50

Richard C. Lunt, 97, of Chelmsford, MA died peacefully at home on October 21.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Beverly (Bryce) Lunt of Chelmsford, children Richard and wife Claudia of Venice, FL, Jeffrey and wife Sue of Dennis MA, Sandra and partner Valerie of Haverhill, MA and Gregory of Webster, MA and grandchildren Scott, Jessica, Steven, Kelly and Brian and many nieces and nephews.

Born in South Portland, the 5th of 6 children to Paul C. Lunt and Helen (Thompson) Lunt, he was predeceased by his sisters Betty Dupont, Ruth Duff, Peg Carmichael, and brothers James Lunt and Ben Lunt.

He was a 1943 graduate of South Portland High School.  He then served in the US Navy during WWII from 1944 – 1946.  He continued his education at Bowdoin College.  He started work at Bancroft & Martin in So. Portland then finished his career at the Boyd Corporation in Cambridge, MA.

He was active in several groups including the Kiwanis Club, Boy Scouts of America and the High School Sports Booster Club in Chelmsford.  He enjoyed music, especially Barber Shop harmonies.  He was a proud past member of the Downeasters, part of Maine’s Barbershop Harmony Society.

He was an avid reader and loved spending time with family, at Little Sebago Lake in the summer and as a snowbird in Venice, FL.  He was also a big fan of Boston’s teams, especially the Red Sox.

He will be greatly missed by all.  A celebration of life service for family and friends will be held at a date to be determined later during the summer.
