Richard E. Swann ’52 died on October 10, 2022, in West Yarmouth, Massachusetts.

Richard E. Swann ’52

Richard E. Swann of West Yarmouth, formerly of South Easton and West Bridgewater, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2022, with his wife and his two sons by his side. He was 92 years young, kind, generous and thoughtful to the end.

Dick was the son of the late Horace E. and Elizabeth (Anderson) Swann and brother of the late Robert E. Swann. He was born in Brockton, MA, and raised in West Bridgewater, graduating from Howard High School in 1948. He then attended Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME, graduating in 1952 with an AB in History.

After college, Dick enlisted in the Army and served in an ambulance corps in Korea. Upon his return to the states, he embarked on a career as an executive in the banking and health care industries, retiring in 1989 from Goddard Memorial Hospital. Dick was active in many local civic and youth organizations, including the Red Cross, Old Colony United Way and the Boy Scouts of America.

In addition to his wife of thirty-seven years, Kathleen (Martin) Swann, he leaves his two sons, Randall P. Swann and wife Christine of Lakeville, MA, and Mark R. Swann and wife Mary of Portland, ME, as well as his brother-in-law William Martin and wife Marcia of West Boylston, and son-in-law David Maisch of Foxboro. He was predeceased by his daughter, Pamela Maisch. He also leaves eight grandchildren: Ethan Swann, Caleb Swann, Joshua Smith, Tyler Smith, Haley Smith, Lydia Swann, Maggie Swann and Jackson Swann, and six great-grandchildren, Leo, Maxwell, Sage, Oliver, Ava and Lucía.
