8 June 1945 – 26 October 2024
Richard Steven Pike, age 79, of Port Chester, New York, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2024.
My Uncle Dick has been one of my favorite people since I was a little girl in the 80’s. He read the same silly stories over and over, always pretended to walk into the mailbox on our walks to the store. He woke me up once when I was staying at my Grammies while my Mom worked so I could watch A Charlie Brown Christmas with him and my Grammie. When one of us would exclaim, “I’m bored”, UD would reply, “only boring people get bored.” That got my young mind thinking.
I had the privilege of sharing 2-4 months out of the year with him going on 20 years. Most evenings after work I’d plop down on his bedroom floor while he was waiting on the news and we would talk about the days events. Politics, books, the birds we’d each seen that day. Or maybe a question about sentence structure ( sorry, UD, I know I probably messed this up. )He was so much more than just the date he was born and died. He wore so many hats, but this one is just for me.
That’s what I miss most of my theater loving, English teaching, kind Uncle is talking about our day.
