Richard “Dick” Wonson Brown of Ludlow, MA, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at the age of 87. After several months of declining health, Dick died peacefully at his home with his beloved wife Connie by his side.

Dick was born in Newton, MA on July 4, 1934 to the late Charles Henry “Harry” Brown and Margaret Myrtle Leisk, and lived in Holliston, MA until 1948. He then moved to Waldoboro, ME where he was a star high school student and athlete, and where he met his future bride, Constance Emily Randolph.

In 1952, Dick enrolled at Bowdoin College but then joined the US Army in 1955. He served in Korea from 1955 to 1957 for the Army Security Agency. After his military service, Dick completed his degree at Bowdoin and graduated in 1961 with a BA degree.

Dick began his working career in 1961 at Bath Iron Works in Maine and then went on to successful endeavors for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company and Sweet Life Foods before retiring in January 1996. After retiring, Dick continued his passion for traveling, camping (a 5th wheeler fan), woodworking, the Red Sox and the Patriots. He was also a frequent volunteer in his community and with his church.  And always was, and will be, the king of trivia.

During his 30 years raising a family in East Longmeadow, MA, he was always active in his children’s and grandchildren’s many school and sports activities, including as a Y-Indian Guide, a baseball and softball coach, as a trainer/coach to “the kids,” and, most importantly, as an avid fan of almost any sporting event, play, concert, or other event.  Dick was also a long-time resident of Chicopee, Holyoke, and Ludlow MA, a true New Englander for most of his life.

Dick is survived by Connie, his wife of almost 66 years; sister, Sally Robertson; sister-in-law, Margie Hodgkins; daughter, Catherine and son-in-law, Stephen Bergeron; daughter, Susan and son-in-law, Robert Polcari; son, Steven Brown and daughter-in-law, Nancy; grandchildren: Nathan Bergeron, Dominick Polcari and his wife, Ashley, Angela Polcari, Andrew Polcari, Deanna Polcari, Maria Polcari, and Jack Polcari; and great grandson, Bennett Polcari.
