Robert J. Crossett, Sr. G’74 died on May 31, 2026, in Lyme, New Hampshire.

Robert John Crossett G’74

Robert John Crossett, 79, husband of Patricia Anne Corwin Crossett, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.

Born March 7, 1947, in Montpelier, Vermont, he was the son of the late John William Crossett and the late Marjorie Helen Katherine Rossiter Crossett. Robert received a bachelor’s degree from Johnston State College, and master’s from Bowdoin College. He was a mathematics and computer teacher at Thetford Academy for thirty-five years and set up the first computer network at Thetford Academy.

He was a bishop and high counselor for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served in the church for many decades, in many positions. He served a full-time church mission in the Oregon–Portland mission with Patricia and regularly volunteered in the Boston, and Washington, DC, and Columbia, SC, temples.

Once Robert began his career, he found himself hiking many trails with students and then began to take his family on hikes to the forty-eight prominent peaks in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, completing nearly all of them with his sons. Many more hikes captivated his weekends, and summers as he started backpacking sections of the Appalachian Trail, and the Long Trail of Vermont. Other notable hikes he enjoyed in the west included Kings Peak in Utah, the Grand Canyon, Half Dome, and Mount Whitney.

One of Bob’s favorite quotes, “Keep trying. Be believing. Be happy. Don’t get discouraged. Things will work out.”

Survivors include his wife; five children, Janus Crossett (Laura), Chris Crossett (Shellie), Megan Coleman (Fritz), Jonathan Crossett (Alissa), and Robert Crossett Jr.; ten grandchildren, Grace, Anne, Lauren, Taylor, Addison, James, Eldon, Caleb, Leah, and Brycen; three great-grandchildren, Aaron, Daniel, and Thomas; and one sister, Virginia Law.
