Robert R. Barker ’50

Robert R. Barker ’50 died October 7, 2012, in Phoenixville, Pa. He was born on January 6, 1928, in Philadelphia, and prepared for college at Lower Merion Senior High School and The Hill School. He was a member of Alpha Delta Phi at Bowdoin, and he also attended Lehigh University. He devoted his career as a mechanical engineer to Hess & Barker, a family-owned business in Philadelphia that was started by his grandfather and where his father, uncle, and aunt worked. He served in the Army, was a Rotarian, and was proud of being an Eagle Scout. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Bergh Barker; daughters Karen, Charlot, and Julia Barker and Susan Weicheld; son Robert Barker Jr.; sixteen grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; stepchildren John, Steve, Chris, and Meredith; and eight step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Jean P. Barker.
