Robert S. Stuart ’44 died on March 20, 2015, in Brunswick.

BRUNSWICK – Dr. Robert S. Stuart of Brunswick died on March 20, 2015. He was 93 years old. Dr. Stuart was born Dec. 7, 1921 in Rangeley, Maine, son of Dr. Charles Stuart of South Paris and Edith Sterling Stuart of Monhegan Island. He graduated from Deering High School (Portland, Maine) in 1940, Bowdoin College in 1944, and Columbia University School of Dentistry in 1947. During the Korean War, he served in the US Air Force Dental Corps at Lackland Air Force Base and K9 Korea. Later, he was a dental officer with the New Hampshire Air National Guard for many years, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He had a private dental practice in Brunswick for 30 years. Dr. Stuart was a State Senator in the 104th Maine State Legislature. He was a past president of the Brunswick Rotary Club.
Dr. Stuart is survived by his wife, Barbara Porter Stuart; his former wife, Virginia Stanforth Stuart; his daughters, Nancy Reid and Gail Stuart Winner, his son Robert Jr., his step-daughter Karen Steenhof; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. For the past 29 years, Dr. Stuart and his wife, Barbara, have lived on Mere Point in the summer months and in Princeville, Kauai in the winter. He always preferred being in Maine.
