Rodman Redman

Rodman Redman (Dining Service staff (20+ years)) died on December 10, 2016, in Zephyrhills, Florida.

Rodman “Rod” Redman, 77, passed away December 10, 2016 at his home in Zephyrhills, FL after a battle with cancer. Born September 12, 1939 in Castine, ME, Rod graduated from Walter Gardner High Schools in Bucksport, ME in 1957, where his father Robert Gayland Redman was Fire Chief and his mother Mary Arlene Redman was a teacher. High School sweethearts in Bucksport, Rod and Judith “Judy” Luce were married for nearly 50 years before she passed away in 2009.

A graduate of Farmington State Teachers College (1963), Rod spent many years as a teacher, coach, and administrator. He began as a teacher and principal in Kingfield and Washington, ME. After his tenures as a Director of Admissions and Guidance at Riverview School in East Sandwich, MA, Rod was the Curriculum Supervisor at Rockport Middle School in Rockport, MA. He returned to Maine as the Principal at Georgetown Elementary School in Georgetown, ME. Rod then brought his culinary talents to Bowdoin College as Head Baker and Special Functions Supervisor. For over twenty years, Rod helped lead the Bowdoin dining services at the Brunswick, ME campus to an annual top ten ranking among all American colleges before taking early retirement due to medical issues.

Mr. Redman was a member of several organizations, including the Masons and the Elks. He earned his 50- Year pin for the former and was an Exalted Ruler in the Bath, ME chapter of the latter. After his retirement, Rod deepened his interests in gardening, genealogy, NASCAR, and the Patriots. His love of family and support of others will be sorely missed. Mr. Redman’s two sisters, Gloria Daughinee and Joyce White, predeceased him. Rod is survived by his two children, Darren L. Redman, his wife Stacey, of Tilton, NH, and their three children, and Yvette L. Gross, her husband, David, of Tucson, AZ, and their son; his brother, Frank, his wife Linda, of Boothbay, ME, and their three children. Charlene Pace, Rod’s companion in Zephyrhills, also survives him.

    Rod was my 7th and 8th grade teacher in Washington. He was the best! I also babysat his kids. I just found this online as I wondered if he was still living. Maybe he and Judy are partying with my parents up in heaven
