Rowe Browning Metcalf Jr. ’49

Rowe Browning Metcalf Jr. ’49 died February 10, 2012, in Boothbay Harbor. He was born on March 3, 1925, in Boston and prepared for college at the Choate School. He served in the Army Air Forces during World War II before attending Bowdoin from 1946 to 1948, a member of Chi Psi fraternity. He worked in the family woolen mill business in Providence, R.I., and New York, then moved to Vermont in 1965. In 1979, he retired to Southport, where he practiced his love of gardening and was active in the sailing community, serving one term as Commodore of the Southport Yacht Club. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rona Roberts Metcalf; two sons, Peter and Tim Metcalf; a daughter, Nicola Metcalf; one granddaughter; a half-brother, Henry Metcalf, and a half-sister, Louise O’Keeffe.
