Steven C. Lawrence ’57

Steven C. Lawrence ’57 died on March 22, 2015, in Greenville, Rhode Island.

Steven C. Lawrence, 80, of Elmhurst Drive, Greenville, died Sunday, March 22, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Maryellen (Kittle) Lawrence. They had been married for 46 years.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Edward W. and Louise (Calef) Lawrence.

He had lived in Smithfield since 1970 previously living in Johnston. He served in the RI National Guard. Steven was a graduate of Bowdoin College and was past-president of the Bowdoin Club of RI. He held many offices and coached in several Smithfield youth athletic leagues. He was also past-president of the Johnston District Nurses Association and the West End Volunteer Fire Association, was a member of the Providence Society of Financial Analyst and the American Society of Baseball Research. In addition, Steven was involved in the BoSox Club and the Rhode Island Civil War Round Table and Olde Colony Civil War Round Table.

Mr. Lawrence was employed for 32 years in the Investment Department of RI Hospital Trust National Bank retiring in 1990 as Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager. He had later held similar positions at Old Stone Bank, Shawmut Bank and Fleet Investment Advisors.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children: Edward C. Lawrence of Topsham, ME, Catherine G. Milchman of Howell, NJ, Mary L. Gallagher of Dedham, MA and Steven C. Lawrence, Jr.,of Los Angeles, CA, 8 grandchildren and a sister, Anne Strawn of Gulf Stream, FL.
