Steven C. Packard ’71 died on February 21, 2025, in Newport, Maine.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen C. Packard, attorney at law, of Newport, Maine. Stephen passed away peacefully following a long illness at home with family by his side on the evening of Friday, February 21, 2025, at the age of 75. He was born on May 17, 1949, in Methuen, Massachusetts, to the parents of Charles and Mary Packard of North Andover, Massachusetts.
Upon graduation from North Andover High School, class of 1967, Stephen moved to the State of Maine. A graduate of Bowdoin College in 1971, he majored in government and russian history. He belonged to the basketball and wrestling team. Stephen earned his law degree from Washington and Lee University School of Law in Lexington, Virginia. Stephen returned to Maine and built his own law practice for 40 years, serving the residents of Newport and the surrounding communities with unwavering support and guidance. Stephen was a highly respected legal advisor and a cherished friend to many, Stephen was admired for his wisdom, integrity, and deep commitment to his community. Beyond his professional achievements, Stephen embraced life’s simple joys. He found happiness in reading, skiing, sharing laughter, jokes, and playing board games with family and friends. His warmth, generosity, and steadfast presence left a lasting impact. His absence will be deeply felt by his community and all who knew him.
Stephen is survived by his devoted wife of twenty years, Catherine (Hume); and their beloved children, Nathan and Sophia, who were a great source of pride. He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings, Ann Boyd and husband, Jim, David Packard and wife, Ana, and Christine Fleming and her husband, Jim. He was predeceased by his son, Andrew. He also leaves behind two stepsons, Allen and Darren and wife, Liza Brawn; and his step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many good friends, past and present.
