Theodore E. Davis ’67 died on July 19, 2024, in Charleston, South Carolina.

Theodore E. Davis ’67

Theodore Edgar Davis, Captain USNR (Ret.), Captain, United Airlines passed July 19, 2024. Born April 18, 1945, in Baltimore, Maryland, the treasured only child of Warren Maywood Davis and Beulah Burkhart Davis. Pilot, patriot, singer, sometime songwriter, and connoisseur of all cuisine. With an unmatched zest for life, Ted brought joy, humor, and contagious love wherever he went. A graduate of the American Boychoir School, Princeton, NJ, Governor Livingston High School, Bowdoin College, and a distinguished graduate of the Naval Aviation Schools Command. Following active duty with the Navy, he joined the Naval Reserve, call sign “Cookie Monster,” completing twenty years of service, which included command of the Master Augment Unit in Brunswick, Maine. He retired from United Airlines as a 777 Captain. He was well known for serenading the cockpit crew and organizing meals on layovers. In total Ted amassed 20,000 hours of flight time. A man of many talents, he was also employed by Central Maine Power, Tracor Marine, and the schooner Virginia.

A member of ALPA, Zeta Psi Fraternity, Princess Anne Investment Club, University Glee Club of New York, Bowdoin College Glee Club, director of the Bowdoin Bachelors, and a church choir member. He was also a founding member of “Choir Practice” in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was thrilled with the opportunity to sing with his daughter, Libby, with the New York Choral Society in Venice, Italy. They also often performed duets at special family events.

Left to treasure his memory are his wife of fifty years, Betsy, his daughter,s Libby Davis and Meg Malanuk, son-in-law, Chris Malanuk and grandsons, Christopher Malanuk and Casey Malanuk, to whom he will always be “Pappy.” Also, adored cousin Margy Taylor (Robert) and their daughters, Josie, Amy, and Margaret Lane. brother-in-law, Dr. James Mathers (Susan) and his children, Erik, Alex, and Connie; additionally Gaylord Farquarny and Skip Donelly.
