Theodore S. Danzig ’22 died on October 30, 2021, in Brunswick, Maine.
(The following notice was shared by President Rose on October 30, 2021)
To the Bowdoin community,
It is with the greatest sadness that I write to tell you of the tragic death of Theo Danzig ’22, of New York City, in his off-campus residence here in Brunswick. The cause of death is currently under investigation by the Brunswick Police Department and the authorities in Cumberland County.
We are in touch with Theo’s family and are offering our support, and we are providing support to Theo’s housemates. I offer my deepest condolences to his family, his friends and loved ones, and to our students, faculty, staff, and others who knew Theo here at Bowdoin.
A month away from his twenty-second birthday, Theo was an accomplished student and a tremendously active member of the Bowdoin community. A history and government and legal studies double major, he was honored in 2020 with an Alfred E. Golz Summer Research Fellowship and was working on an honors project at the time of his death. He served as copresident of Hillel, as associate editor of the Harpoon, and as an Outing Club trip leader. Theo was an assistant in Hawthorne-Longfellow Library, a contributor to The Bowdoin Orient, and a member of the men’s Ultimate Frisbee team. He was also active in the College’s culinary club. This past summer, he served as a legal assistant in a local law firm, and in high school, he worked as a camp counselor for young children in New York City.
We will be working with Theo’s family and friends to plan a memorial service on campus in the coming days, details of which will be circulated when they become available.
Thank you for holding Theo and his family in your heart and your prayers, and for continuing to support each other.
Sincerely,
Clayton
