William A. Prosser III ’58

William A. Prosser III ’58 died on May 19, 2010 in Southport, North Carolina.

William A. (“Pete”) Prosser III, 73, of Southport died Wednesday, May 19, 2010.

He was born in Fall River, Massachusetts, on April 4, 1937. He graduated from Bowdoin College and, after serving in the U.S. Army and working for Bell Telephone Company and General Telephone, he earned a master of arts degree in accounting from Ball State University. He became a certified public accountant and worked in private practice in Richmond, Indiana.

Mr. Prosser joined the faculty of St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg in 1985 and became a tenured associate professor of accounting and business administration and also served as vice-president of finance. In 1995, he assumed the position of vice-president for administration and treasurer at Union Theological Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, Virginia.

He retired to Southport in 2004. He volunteered at Dosher Memorial Hospital and was a member of Oak Island Presbyterian Church.

He was grateful for 48 years of marriage to his wife, Sue, who passed away in January 2009, and for two fine daughters, Marcia and Nancy.
