Arthur Joseph Stebbins Jr.

Brunswick – Arthur J. “Stubby” Stebbins, Jr. of Lisbon Falls passed away Monday evening March 28th at MidCoast Hospital with family at his side. He was born in Lisbon Falls, December 7, 1922, to Arthur J. Stebbins and Ellen (Hill) Stebbins and was educated in Lisbon Schools. He was best known as Stubby and a lifelong resident in the community. Stubby served in the military during WWII as a machinist in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. He married Gwendolyn (Huston) on September 25, 1948, and they were married for seventy-four years. As a machinist he worked at U.S. Testing in New Jersey from 1950 to 1955. Then several years at Worumbo Mill in Lisbon Falls. Stubby retired from Bowdoin College after twenty years as head of the custodial department. He belonged to different organizations throughout his life. Stub enjoyed fishing, camping, and ATVing with family and friends. He also enjoyed dancing and bowling and was in a bowling league until age 96. He will be missed but, “OH” he will be remembered in many hearts! He leaves behind his wife, Gwendolyn Stebbins of Lisbon Falls; two daughters, Diane Yard and husband Michael of Bath and Pearl Scribner and husband Kenneth of Durham; special son-in-law Gerald Jordan of Woolwich, plus others he put under his wing; ten grandchildren, Judi, Joseph, Stacey, Devin, Kenneth Jr. Kristopher, Brian, Lee, Denise, Jennifer; twenty-five great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Stubby was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Ellen, his sister, Pearl Brooker, his grandson Gerald (Jaybo) Jordan, and a great-great grandson, Dusten McDaniels.
