Arthur L.S. Dunphy ’46 died on April 9, 2015, in Clemmons, North Carolina.

Mr. Arthur “Art” Leonard Simpson Dunphy, 90, of Advance, NC, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Trinity Elms Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Dunphy was born on March 15, 1925 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey to the late Leonard Simpson Dunphy and Helen Dayton Dunphy. Art was a mortar gunner in the 84th Infantry Division of the United States Army during WWII. He was awarded 3 battle stars and a purple heart for injuries suffered during The Battle of the Bulge. Following his service to his country, Art graduated from Bowdoin College in 1948 with an A.B. Degree and in 1950 he received his MBA Degree from Columbia University. Mr. Dunphy was an Investment Analyst with Prudential Insurance Company unitl 1969 when he left to go to Wachovia Bank as a Loan Administration Officer. He retired in 1990 as a Vice President with Wachovia. Following his retirement, Art continued to work on special projects in Credit Operation with Wachovia until age 79. He was an accomplished cross stitcher and a lover of horses. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dunphy was preceded in death by one brother, Alan Dayton Dunphy. Mr. Dunphy is survived by his wife, Sally Weslowe Blenus Dunphy of the home; one daughter, Amy Dayton Dunphy Olsen and husband, Jon of Mooresville, NC; one granddaughter, Sadona Rose Olsen; a brother, Hugh Rouse Dunphy and wife, Evelyn of Bath, Maine; one sister, Carolyn Dunphy Gesteland and husband, Bob of Wilmington, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
