Charles G. Hatch ’35 died on January 29, 2014, in North Andover, Massachusetts, at the age of 100.
He was born in Lawrence, Mass., on March 5, 1913, and graduated from Lawrence High School. A member of Sigma Nu fraternity, he earned a bachelor of laws and a juris doctor in 1946 from Boston University School of Law. After his discharge from the Army as a private, he joined the law firm of Rowell, Clay & Tomlinson in Lawrence. In 1951, he and his brother-in-law, Walter C. Tomlinson, established the law firm of Tomlinson & Hatch, and he practiced until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the Lawrence, Essex County, and Massachusetts Bar Associations. He served on the Andover Veterans Housing Committee, South School Building Committee, and Andover Finance Committee, and he was moderator of Andover Town Meeting for seven years. He served on the Board of Trustees of Andover Savings Bank, as counsel for Lawrence General Hospital, on the Board of Directors of Berkeley Retirement Home, and for thirty-two years on the Board of Directors of the Andover Companies. He was president of the Lawrence YMCA and of the Lawrence Rotary Club and a member of Lawrence United Lodge, AF & AM. An avid golfer into his nineties, he was a member of North Andover Country Club, Cape Arundel Golf Club in Kennebunkport, and New Smyrna Beach Municipal Golf Club in Florida. He is survived by sons Charles G. Hatch Jr. ’70, J. Daniel Hatch ’71, Richard E. Hatch, and Timothy P. Hatch; twelve grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by Miriam “Bette” Eldridge Hatch, his wife of fifty-seven years, in 2004; and by his twin sister, Ruth.
