AUBURN — Christine J. Edwards Elliot Edgecomb, 88, of Lewiston, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 2, at Androscoggin Home Hospice, Stetson Road.

Christine, known as Jeannette to family and friends, was born at home in Casco on July 24, 1927, the eldest girl and fourth child of Ernest P. and Euphemie (Fournier) Edwards. She attended local schools and graduated as salutatorian of her high school class. She first married Roger L. Elliott, who predeceased her in 1951. In 1957, she married Frank L. Edgecomb, who passed away in 1997.

Christine was employed at Bell Manufacturing during her work life and retired from the Bowdoin College culinary department. Her fun sense of humor served her well in all parts of her life. She and Frank enjoyed life and were members of a motorcycle club, The Retreads, with whom they traveled much of Maine and parts of Canada. While Christine rode her own bike, a Honda Shadow 500, until she was 70 years of age, her lifelong passion was flower gardening. Her gardens in South Harpswell were admired by family, friends and many others.

As a member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, she enjoyed worshiping with her congregation and made several dear friends among this group. All through her life, she quietly helped many people, which was not known even to some of those closest to her. From giving an elderly person a ride, to washing floors for others, she helped when and wherever she could.

Edgecomb is survived by her daughter, Deanna R. Elliot Marken-Turcotte and husband, Jerry; her son, Michael R. Edgecomb and wife, Debbie; and her son, Jeffrey D. Edgecomb and his partner, Sarah. She also leaves a daughter-in-law, Janet Elliott; and her beloved sister, Hilda Despres. Christine also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and several special nieces and nephews, as well as several children who she considered her adopted grandchildren.

In addition to her two husbands, Christine was predeceased by her son, Rodney L. Elliott; her parents; her brothers, Donald, Roger, Ernest and Francis Edwards; and her sister, Dorothy R. Farnum.

Our family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the caring and generous staff at Androscoggin Home Hospice. We could not have asked for a better place for our mother. We would also like to include our deep appreciation to those nurses who visited her at home.
