Commander Frederick R. Sims ’45

Commander Frederick R. Sims ’45 died on October 1, 2013, in Hanover, Maryland.

He was born on May 16, 1924, in Stoneham, Mass., and prepared for college at New Hampton School. A member of Theta Delta Chi fraternity, he graduated from Bowdoin in 1947 after serving in the Navy during World War II, remaining a member of the class of 1945. He went on to earn a bachelor of science from the U.S. Navy Postgraduate School in 1954. He retired from the Navy in 1967 after twenty-six years of service, and he continued to work for the Navy as a civilian data analyst for another twenty years. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ada Baker, in 1957, after ten years of marriage. He married Constance Jacobson on December 11, 1959. Survivors include his daughter, Lori J. Hicks. He also had a son, Robert.
