Donald A. Hatch ’60 died on June 10, 2023, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Portsmouth, NH – Donald A. Hatch, 85, died on June 10, 2023, at Wentworth Senior Living in Portsmouth NH.
Born January 2, 1938, in New York City, he was the son of John K. and Eleanor (Lewis) Hatch. Don, or “Skip” as he was also known by many, grew up in Port Washington (Long Island), NY, but had deep family ties to the seacoast of New Hampshire. He regularly returned to visit the Hatch family home in Greenland near the beautiful Great Bay Estuary which he loved. He attended Bowdoin College and earned a master’s degree from New York University, where he continued with doctoral studies in the areas of anthropology and sociology. While a graduate student, he taught criminology classes at Hofstra University.
Ultimately his love for, and connections with New Hampshire were too strong, and he relocated to the state where he remained for the rest of his life. He dedicated his career to education and served as the director of guidance at Epping High School until retirement. He loved the town of Stratham, where he lived since 1977, and served on the planning board and historical society.
He was married to the love of his life, Rosemary, for thirty years until her death in 2003. He is survived by his two children, Mary (Frannie) Hopkins and her husband, William (Billy), of Dover and John K. Hatch and his wife, Sarah, of Stratham, a sister, Debra Brewitt ,and her husband, Mark, of Stratham, and four grandchildren, Beatrice, Willie, Nora, and Maybelle.
