Everett W. Gray ’48

Everett W. Gray ’48 died on his eighty-seventh birthday, March 12, 2014, in Ormond Beach, Fla. He was born on March 12, 1927, in Presque Isle, and graduated from Presque Isle High School, where he was class president. He served to seaman first class in the Navy after a year at Bowdoin, then returned to college, a member of Zeta Psi fraternity. He went on to graduate from Boston University School of Law in 1951. He established a private practice in Bangor, specializing in real estate and probate law, and retired from Gray, Gray, and Palmer in 1988. He served as president of the Penobscot County Bar Association and chairman of the Maine State Bar Association Title Standards Section. He also served for many years as a director of Penobscot Savings and People’s Heritage Banks. He was predeceased by his wives, Betty S. Gray and Joanne S. Gray; brother Granville Chase Gray Jr.; and sister Nannabelle G. Carter. He is survived by his companion and long-time partner, Marguerite Severance; daughter Karen E. Atkinson; son David E. Gray; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
