Henry F. Picking ’53

Henry F. Picking ’53 died February 22, 2013, at his home in Brunswick. He was born in Portland on February 28, 1931, and prepared for Bowdoin at Eaglebrook School, Noble and Greenough School, and Portland Junior College. He attended Bowdoin from 1949 to 1950, served in the Navy, then attended Boston University. He worked at the Shopping Notes in Yarmouth for twenty years, leaving in the late 1970s to work at Bicknell Photos, and following that as a co-owner of Adam Marine in Portland. He was an avid sailor who sailed many Newport-to-Bermuda races, Monhegan races, and Portland Yacht Club races in Casco Bay. He also had a passion for opera and served on the boards of the Boston Opera Company and Opera New England. He is survived by sisters Frances P. Helyar and Elizabeth S. Hamill.
