John M. Foley G’67 died April 25, 2013, at his home in South Hadley, Mass. He was born in Holyoke, Mass., on November 2, 1930, and prepared for college at Sacred Heart High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 1956 and a master’s degree in education in 1958, both from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He also studied at Oberlin College and Ohio State University under a National Science Foundation grant for study in mathematics education. He was a teacher and math department chairman for more than thirty years at Holyoke High School, where he taught advanced calculus. He also taught mathematics at Holyoke Community College, St. Hyacinth Seminary, Williston Academy, and the Mount Holyoke College summer math program. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Elaine Vanasse; brothers David Foley and Father Daniel Foley; daughters Dr. Diane Foley, Ann Foley, and Joan Hamarneh; sons John, Stephen, and David; and one grandchild.
