Joseph S. Cronin ’43

Joseph S. Cronin ’43 died November 6, 2013, in Auburn. He was born in Lewiston, on February 8, 1922, son of the late Eugene J. Cronin of the Class of 1916, and graduated from Lewiston High School. A member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, he went on to graduate from Harvard Business School. During World War II, he served three years as a Navy officer stationed in England, attaining the rank of second lieutenant. He was chairman of the Board of Directors of Federal Distributors Inc., where he served as president for sixty-two years. Over a period of fifteen years, he served on the boards of directors of three local banks and one statewide bank holding company, as well as Maine Recycling Corporation. He served three years on the twelve-member national Wholesaler Advisory Panel representing 960 Anheuser-Busch wholesalers and served as the Maine wholesaler representative on the Anheuser-Busch Panel on Industry and Government Affairs. He served on the original ten-member Wholesaler Advisory Council of United Vintners. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Basilica, Prince of Peace Parish, Lewiston. He is survived by brother Paul B. Cronin. He was predeceased by brother Eugene J. Cronin Jr. ’45.
