Robert B. Mason ’50

Robert B. Mason ’50 died on May 1, 2020, in North Stonington, Connecticut.

Robert Broadstreet Mason, 95, of North Stonington, beloved husband of Jane (Bartlett) Mason for 70 years, passed away Friday, May 1, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Boston, MA, son of the late Dr. Broadstreet H. Mason and Rena (Ferguson) Mason, he was raised in Connecticut and served in the U.S. Army during WWII in France and Central Europe. He received his B.S. from Bowdoin College and was employed as a chemical engineer for over forty years, retiring from the Monsanto Corp. After retirement he volunteered for twenty-eight  years helping seniors do their taxes in libraries in Southeastern Connecticut. He traveled around the country participating in ping-pong and badminton competitions in the Senior Olympics. Bob loved to garden and enjoyed camping trips with his family. He was known for his “Chit-em-chew” stories around the campfire where he regaled family and friends alike. Bob was an active member of Grace Fellowship in North Stonington and served on the Missions Committee.

Besides his wife, Jane, he leaves his four children, Lizabeth Abramson and her husband, Jay, of Avon, David Mason, and Janice Gouvin and her husband, Neil, all of North Stonington, and Susan Ward and her husband, James, of Groton; his grandchildren, Nathan Abramson and his wife, Cailyn, Jesse Abramson, Adam Abramson, and his wife, Adiel, Alexandra Souza and her husband, Richard, Zachary and Max Urso, Rachael Ward, and Jessica Ward; and great grandchildren Nuria, Annie Mae, Yagel, Bella, and Noah Abramson, Adelyn, Fallon, and Tauren Souza. He was predeceased by two brothers, Charles and Lloyd Mason.
