Robert W. Waugh, age 95, passed away peacefully, on July 29, in Harwich, MA. Bob was born in Boston on April 12, 1928, and spent his early years in Andover, MA. He graduated from Governor Dummer Academy in 1946 and received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Bowdoin College. He went on to receive his master’s degree in textiles from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. In the mid-fifties, Bob was a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force Air Material Command at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. On leaving the Air Force, he became a technical service representative for the Textile Fibers Department of E.I. Dupont de Nemours in Wilmington, DE. He joined Huyck Felt Company in Rensselaer, New York, in 1962, where he was manager of the Technical Service Group and product manager, supplying felts to the paper industry. Bob and his loving wife, Debby, lived in Delmar, NY, where they raised their four children, and then retired to live full-time on Cape Cod. He loved walks to the beach with his wife by his side, testing the water temperature of Nantucket Sound during evening swims, dining on lobster bodies, oysters, and cod, prepared in his own special way, and of course having his house full of family. Bob also attended St. Christopher’s Church in Chatham, MA, and was a member of the Allen Harbor Yacht Club. Bob was a true gentleman and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to a large family who loved him very much. A quiet, humble man with a dry but very warm sense of humor, his presence as patriarch at family gatherings made every event special and full of laughter. He lived a long life, not without struggle, but always with perseverance and love for his wife, Debby, his family and his friends. He also passed his passion and good golf genes onto his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Bob is survived by his wife, Deborah Potter Waugh, whom he married in 1954; his four children and their spouses, Cynthia Drake of Harwich Port, MA (Tom), Gretchen Meeks of South Chatham, MA (Joe), Andrew Waugh of Manchester-By-The-Sea, MA (Alby) and Susan Jay of Groton, CT (Eric); as well as twelve grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
