William M. Russell

William M. Russell, a former custodian and Honorary member of the Bowdoin Alumni Association (1984), died on November 24, 2015, in Bath, Maine.

Bath–William M. Russell, 95, died Tuesday, November 24, 2015, at Winship Green.

He was born in Island Falls, Me January 27, 1920, the son of Orrin and Catherine Russell and graduated from Ireland Falls High School in 1938.

He was Army-Air Force Veterans of WWII, serving as a Sgt in the European Theatre and was a recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal with 6 Bronze Stars.

He was a self-employed clam digger for many years and was employed at Bowdoin College as a custodian for 23 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1984.

He was a lay minister in the Church of the Nazarene since 1950 and a member of the Word of God Fellowship in Brunswick.

He is predeceased by a brother Orrin Russel; two sisters, Elmira Baker and Sarah Simmons.

He is survived by a daughter, Sandra Potvin and her husband James of Cundy’s Harbor; one grandson, Ricky Dunning; a granddaughter Stacy Richardson and her companion Dennis Burns; a former grand-son-in-law, Nye Richardson; two great granddaughters, Landi and Shania Richardson; four great-great grandchildren, Grayson, Mackenzie and Arianna Richardson, Abel Richardson Grenier.
