Irene J. (Carter) Hilton, economics department coordinator for 20 years, died on January 10, 2008, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine.

Juliette Pauline Hodgkins, a long-time secretary at the College and honorary member of the Bowdoin College Alumni Association, died on December 13, 2007, in Brunswick, Maine.

Grace Martha Jepson Brescia, former director of annual giving at the College, died on October 21, 2006, after a six-year battle with breast cancer.

Nancy C. MacDonald, a secretary for 22 years in the Department of Mathematics at the College, died on August 25, 2007, in Topsham, Maine.

Sally Smith LaPointe, who coached at the College from 1972 until her retirement in 1992, died on May 7, 2007, in Bath, Maine.

Irving F. Chipman, who worked for 19 years in the Buildings and Grounds Department at the College as a lead carpenter and locksmith, died on March 2, 2007, in Harpswell, Maine.

Rhoda Zimand Bernstein, who was the registrar at Bowdoin from 1979 to 1989, died on February 9, 2007, in Venice, Florida.

Helen Powers Carson, an honorary member of the Bowdoin Alumni Association, died on January 31, 2007, in Corvallis, Oregon, at the age of 81.

Nancy Ireland, who worked in the Development Office at the College from 1966 to 1986 and was elected an honorary member of the Bowdoin Alumni Association following her retirement, died on July 28, 2006, in Brunswick, Maine.

Edmund (“Benji”) L. Benjamin died on January 24, 2006, in Fort Pierce, Florida.

Philip Hilton Soule, who for nearly 40 years was a member of the Bowdoin coaching staff, died on January 15, 2006, as a result of a fall while visiting friends in Sutton, Vermont.

Stella Marguerite Purinton Bernier Thibeault, who worked in the business office at Bowdoin for 37 years, died on June 10, 2005, in Portland, Maine.

John W. Blackie, who worked for the college in the Facilities Management Department from 1954 until his retirement in 1985, died on April 9, 2005, in Brunswick, Maine.

Priscilla M. Pelletier, who worked for 41 years in the College’s Dining Service, died on February 14, 2005, in Portland, Maine.

Laurier E. Jalbert, a former custodian at the College, died on January 10, 2005, in Lewiston, Maine.

Thomas Martin Libby, who retired from the Bowdoin staff in 1987 as associate treasurer and business manager, died on January 8, 2005, in Brunswick, Maine.

Gerald Richard Tarr, Sr., former member of the custodial and grounds crew at the College, died on November 20, 2004, in Lewiston, Maine.

Virginia Johnson Brown, a switchboard operator at the College for many years and for that reason often called “the voice of Bowdoin College,” died on October 24, 2004, in Brunswick, Maine.

Sidney John Watson, Ashmead White Director of Athletics Emeritus at the College, died on April 25, 2004, at his home in Naples, Florida.

Prudence Priscilla Smith, who worked at the College for 25 years before retiring in 1987, died on December 6, 2003, in Bath, Maine.
