Robert W. Thompson ’57 died September 9, 2014, in Portland. He was born in Boston on May 21, 1934, son of the late James E. Thompson ’26, and prepared for college at Newton (Mass.) High School and Browne & Nichols. He was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. In the fall of 1957, he left a training program with Socony-Mobil Oil Co. in Boston when he was drafted into the Army, where he served for two years. After his discharge, he worked for four years at Scott Paper Co., then joined his father’s business, Appliance Engineering Corp., in Boston, doing sales and service. He eventually became owner of the company. He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Carol Peterson Thompson; daughters Wendy J. McManus and Susan L. Thompson; two grandchildren; and a brother, Richard G. Thompson. He was predeceased by brother James Thompson.
